Take Your Football Development to the Next Level
The new football season brings new opportunities, and on Monday 7th September, our MGFA Elite training sessions return to Forest Park School in Newton Aycliffe.

For players who are already performing at a strong level and want to continue challenging themselves, MGFA Elite provides a focused training environment designed to develop the technical, tactical, physical and mental sides of the game.
It isn't simply about doing more football training. It's about making training count.
What Makes MGFA Elite Different?
As players develop, the small details become increasingly important.
A good first touch is important, but can you produce it under pressure? You might be able to make a pass, but did you recognise the opportunity quickly enough? Can you scan before receiving the ball? Can you make good decisions when the game becomes faster? Can you communicate effectively and understand your role both in and out of possession?
These are the types of areas we want players to think about within MGFA Elite.
Sessions are designed to challenge players both physically and mentally, building on the ability they already have while encouraging them to think more deeply about their game.
Developing More Complete Players
Technical ability will always be important, but becoming a better footballer involves much more than being good with the ball.
Game intelligence, tactical understanding, movement, concentration, physical development, communication and decision-making all contribute to performance.
That's why our Elite sessions aren't about repeating drills simply for the sake of completing them. There should be a purpose behind the work.
Players might be challenged to recognise space more quickly, make decisions under pressure or execute a technique at greater speed. At other times, the focus might be on positioning, movement away from the ball or understanding what to do when possession changes.
The aim is to encourage players to become more aware, adaptable and confident in different situations.
An Environment That Challenges You
Development doesn't always mean getting everything right.
In fact, some of the most valuable learning happens when a player is stretched beyond what currently feels comfortable.
At MGFA Elite, we want players to be willing to try things, make mistakes, listen to feedback and go again.
That doesn't mean creating unnecessary pressure. It means providing the right level of challenge.
If every pass is easy, every decision is obvious and every exercise feels comfortable, there is less opportunity to learn. By increasing the speed, pressure or complexity of a situation, players can begin developing the skills they need when those same situations occur during competitive matches.
Coaching Backed by Football Experience
MGFA is led by Martin Gray, a former professional footballer, alongside a team of experienced coaches who bring their own knowledge and understanding of the game into the academy.
That experience plays an important role within the Elite programme.
Our coaches understand that every player develops differently. The objective isn't to create identical footballers. It's to recognise individual strengths, identify areas that can be improved and provide players with an environment in which they can continue progressing.
MGFA also maintains relationships with professional football clubs, with coaches and scouts attending sessions to monitor player development. Where a player demonstrates exceptional potential, opportunities can arise for MGFA to recommend and initiate trials at academy level.
There are never guarantees in football, but there can be opportunities.
And being prepared when those opportunities arrive matters.
Who Are MGFA Elite Sessions For?
MGFA Elite is aimed at players who are already demonstrating a high level of football ability and are ready for a more challenging coaching environment.
Many of the players attending our Elite programme are involved with professional club academies, development squads or play at a high level within junior football.
But ability alone isn't everything.
Attitude matters.
A willingness to learn matters.
Listening, concentration, teamwork and wanting to improve all matter.
Talent can give a player a fantastic starting point, but continuing to work on your game is what allows that talent to develop.
